Prosecutor reports on court cases

Maria Socorro Lua, 41, of Madras, Ore., pled guilty to attempted taking of a motor vehicle without the owner's permission in the second degree and was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $1,800 including $250 to the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office Investigation Fund, $500 incarceration costs, and restitution to the victim in an amount to be determined at a later date. The defendant is also being held by federal immigration authorities pending the outcome of deportation proceedings.

Matthew James Kent, 19, of Hood River, pled guilty to unlawful possession of a legend drug and was sentenced to serve three days in the county jail and an additional seven days of service on the county work crew. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $820 including $100 to the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory for the cost of testing the drug. The defendant will be on 12 months probation.

James Houston Porritt, II, 27, Dallesport, pled guilty to violation of a no contact order and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and an additional 20 days of service on the county work crew. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $1,795 including $250 to the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office Investigation Fund and $500 incarceration costs. The defendant is subject to 12 months of supervision by the Department of Corrections and is prohibited from contacting the victim for two years.

Francis Atlas Suppah, 19, of Lyle, pled guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance -- Lorazepam, minor in possession of alcohol, and disorderly conduct. The defendant was sentenced to two days in jail and must pay all standard court costs totaling $1300 including $250 to the Klickitat County Drug Fund and $100 incarceration costs. The defendant will be on probation for 12 months and must undergo an evaluation for substance abuse and any treatment that is recommended.

Eduardo Perez Nava, 21, White Salmon, pled guilty to burglary in the second degree and theft in the third degree and was sentenced to 30 days service on the county work crew. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $3,068.85 including $1,072.35 in restitution to the White Salmon School District and $250 to the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department Investigation Fund. The defendant will be supervised by the Department of Corrections for 12 months and must undergo an evaluation for substance abuse and any treatment that is recommended.

The following defendants appeared in the Superior Court on July 20, 2009:

Cody James Squires, 21, of Reno, Nev., pled guilty to assault of a child in the second degree -- domestic violence and was sentenced to 36 months in prison. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $2,109 including $250 to the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department Investigation Fund and $500 incarceration costs. The defendant must also pay restitution to the victim in an amount to be determined and is prohibited from having contact with her for 10 years. The defendant will be supervised by the Department of Corrections for 18-36 months after his release from prison.

Jerrall Johnson, 67, of Goldendale, pled guilty to attempted assault in the third degree -- domestic violence and was sentenced to 23 days in the county jail. The defendant must pay all standard court costs totaling $2,052.50 including $250 to the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office Investigation Fund, a $100 domestic violence assessment, and restitution to the victim in an amount to be determined. The defendant is on 12 months of bench probation and is required to maintain his current mental health and alcohol treatment and undergo a domestic violence evaluation if recommended by his mental health counselor.
