Columbia, for its part, was its own worst enemy.

"We went out flat and played really poorly, making all kinds of errors," said Bruins Coach Heidi Shultz. "A telling stat is that we had 30 hitting errors that contributed to the loss."

TLG benefitted from such mistakes but also did a good job of minimizing its own mistakes. The Eagle Mustangs connected on 78 percent of their attacks and finished with 15 hitting errors in 67 attempts.

Middle hitter Liz Vogt led the TLG offense with 13 kills in 31 attacks, and just three hitting errors. Vogt also recorded six blocks and excelled at the service line, where she was 11-for-11 with a team-high three aces.

Cox also singled out Chelsea Webberley for her performance at the service line (15/16, 2 aces) and "some great digs in the backcourt."

Standouts for the Bruins were Lacey Kruse (9 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces), Carah Concienne (8 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs), Kellyn McCutcheon (4 kills, 2 digs, 3 aces), Andrea Helton (5 kills, 5 aces), Adrianne DeLay (11 assists, 4 aces) and Maree Jo Kettenring (12 assists, 2 aces).

Stevenson Jamboree

Columbia High posted a 4-2 record during the Sept. 9 jamboree at Stevenson High School.

The Bruins split sets with Klickitat, losing the first 25-22 but winning the second 26-24; and with Stevenson, losing 25-14 before rebounding to win the second 25-13. Against Vancouver Christian, CHS won 25-18, 26-24.

"Taking one game from Stevenson at the jamboree really boosted the girls' confidence because Stevenson was the league champs last year and has a lot of really talented hitters," noted Bruins Coach Heidi Shultz.

Columbia's statistical leaders at the jamboree were: Lacey Kruse, 13 kills, 4 blocks, 5 aces; Carah Concienne, 17 kills, 4 digs, 3 aces; Adrianne DeLay, 15 assists, 7 digs, 2 blocks; Kellyn McCutcheon, 3 kills, 8 digs, 4 aces; Andrea Helton, 5 kills, 4 aces; and Maree Jo Kettenring, 11 assists, 3 digs, 3 aces.
