Klickitat's Hershel Sanchey swept the boys' distance races and Lyle's Kara Woosley won the girls javelin and set a school record in the 400-meter dash at last Thursday's Riverside Christian Invitational in Yakima.
Sanchey, a sophomore, won the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs, the last two in state Class B season-best times. His times, in order, were 2:06.6, 4:37.4 and 10:38.4.
Woosley, a junior in her first season of track and field competition, set a personal record of 108 feet, 3 inches in the javelin. It was the first time she'd topped 100 feet outside of practice.
Her time of 1:06.5 in the 400 broke the school record and was good for second place.
Trout Lake-Glenwood had six first-place finishes--tops among four Klickitat County schools--during the seven-team meet at Kumler Field.
TLG's girls team accounted for five of those firsts. Senior Adi Robertson won the 3200 in 11:51.5, junior Kim Poland won the 100 hurdles (17.6), sophomore Dave'y Lumley won the discus (93-8), freshman Neola Putnam won the 800 (2:35.1), and the 4x400 relay came in first in 4:28.7.
On the boys side, senior Dale Dick was victorious in the 400 (52.4) and anchored TLG's 4x400 relay to a second-place finish (3:49.8).
Other top finishers from area schools included Trout Lake-Glenwood freshman Mikael Dick Schmid in the boys 300 hurdles (2nd, 46.6), Lyle junior Joe Nelson in the boys high jump (3rd, 5-10), and Lyle junior Kiera Murphy in the girls shot put (3rd, 28-9.5).
