Aggressive, ballhawking man-to-man defense and balanced scoring on offense were the hallmarks of Trout Lake/Glenwood's 58-26 non-league girls basketball victory over Horizon Christian Monday in Odell, Ore.
The win raised the Eagle Mustangs' record in December games to 5-0.
TLG took charge of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring the host Hawks, 22-8, to build a 29-11 halftime advantage.
Two minutes into the period, Horizon closed within 10-7 on a pair of free throws by Liz Taylor. But Stephanie Anderson countered for TLG moments later, converting both ends of a 1-and-1 and starting a 14-point run by the Eagle Mustangs that featured eight points by Katie Yarnell.
Yarnell finished with a game-high 14 points, Dave'y Lumley scored 13 and Megan Anderson had 10 on a night TLG made 15-of-25 free throws (4 for 5 by Lumley, 3 for 4 by Kindra Van Laar).
At the start of the third quarter, Heather Huffsmith sank two from the line to kick off a 9-2 TLG run that included five points by Lumley (including a 3-point play) and pushed the Eagle Mustangs' lead past 20 points.
Lyle 28, at Cascade Locks, Ore. 23 (OT):
The visiting Cougars outscored the Pirates, 5-0, in overtime last Saturday to win the third time in four starts.
Tosha Cloud had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Lexi Becker collected 14 rebounds for Lyle, which led 8-2 after one quarter, 10-5 at halftime and 16-13 through three.
In the fourth, Cascade Locks rallied to tie the score at 23-all with eight seconds remaining. Lyle had a chance to win it in regulation but missed a short shot as time expired.
"It was a good win for us going into the Christmas break, but we have a lot of things to work on during the break," noted Cougars Coach Chris Barthlow.
Klickitat 50, at Wahluke 37:
Samantha Brewer had 24 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals last Saturday in the Vandals' non-league victory over the Warriors.
Zoe Linder added 11 points and Laura Justman tallied 14 rebounds for Klickitat, which mounted a 27-11 halftime lead on its way to improving to 3-1.
At Trout Lake/Glenwood 42, Horizon Christian 12:
The Eagle Mustangs overcame a sluggish start to win the Dec. 4 non-league game agaisnt the Hawks.
Dave'y Lumley's nine points paced TLG, which held Horizon scoreless in the first and third quarters.
Kindra Van Laar chipped in with eight points and Liz Vogt came off the bench to contribute seven.
