Tori Allen of Indianapolis, Ind., won her second Subaru Gorge Games bouldering title Sunday, solving all three problems laid out on the climbing wall in her first attempt.
The 12-year-old climbing phenom placed first at last year's games in the youth division. This year she moved up to the women's division, and rose to the challenge in Sunday's finals.
Allen's second Gorge Games title adds to her impressive resume of climbing achievements. The highlights of her career to date include two Junior National and International Climbing crowns and a second-place finish in the difficulty event at this past year's Adult National Bouldering Championships.
Allen, a 9-foot pole vaulter, planned to participate in the 2001 Junior Olympics Track and Field Meet following the Gorge Games.
The men's bouldering title went to Tommy Caldwell of Estes Park, Colo.
Caldwell has been climbing since he was 3. His climbing record is packed with hard routes and first ascents. His free ascents include the Salathe Wall and Lurking Fear on Yosemite's El Capitan, and a redpoint of his new route Kryptonite, near Rifle, Colo.
Caldwell rates Kryptonite a 5.14d, making it potenÿtially the hardest route in North America.
Dyno Competition:
Gorge Games climbing conÿcluded late Sunday afternoon with the finals of the dyno competition.
Zak Farmer and Lauren Lee emerged victorious in the men's and women's divisions respectively in front of a packed crowd at the National Geographic Adventure Village in Hood River.
Both Farmer and Lee placed fourth in the bouldering events earlier in the day.
Bouldering winners Tori Allen and Tommy Caldÿwell finished third and ninth respectively in their divisions.
