Odell man admits to attack on ex-wife

Aguirre, who resides in Odell, pleaded guilty in August to the attack on his former spouse after he barged into her Hood River home last December. He was given until the end of the year to complete his first sentence so that he could meet work demands related to fruit harvest. He must complete his additional time in jail for contempt of court by the end of February.

Hood River County District Attorney John Sewell said Aguirre, who was intoxicated at the time of the burglary and assault, has also been ordered to enter an alcohol treatment program and submit to random urine/breath/blood tests. In addition, he will be on probation for three years and perform 48 hours of community service.

Aguirre told deputies that he had become aggressive with his ex-wife after she refused to turn over a book that he wanted. Dispatch sent deputies to the scene after the victim called 9-1-1 and they heard the assault taking place over an open phone line. A second call had been made by a neighbor who witnessed Aguirre’s unauthorized entrance into the home while allegedly carrying a handgun. That individual told police that, upon hearing the victim’s cries for help, he looked through the doorway and witnessed Aguirre in the process of hitting her.

The victim suffered contusions to the forehead, bruises to the neck and a black eye. By the time officers arrived, Aguirre had left the scene and returned to his residence on Summit Drive. Although he initially insisted that he had been home all evening, deputies lodged him in NORCOR after finding his vehicle engine warm from recent use and fresh scratches on his chest. A handgun was also seized at his residence.
