Larry Ray Aplin of White Salmon passed away in Hood River, Oregon on July 23, 2003. He was 69 years old. Larry was born on December 3, 1933 in Lyle, Washington to Samuel R. and Mildred A. (Thornton) Aplin.

Larry Ray Aplin of White Salmon passed away in Hood River, Oregon on July 23, 2003. He was 69 years old. Larry was born on December 3, 1933 in Lyle, Washington to Samuel R. and Mildred A. (Thornton) Aplin.
The family moved to Husum where Larry started school. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1952. Larry went to work at Hollenbecks until he was drafted into the Army in 1956. He served 22 months in Germany with the Army. After his discharge, he returned to logging at Hollenbeck.
In 1962 Larry married Betty Hearn. The couple made their home in Bingen. SDS Lumber Company bought Hollenbecks and Larry continued to be a logger until 1984. He then worked for Wind River Nursery until he retired in 1995.
After retirement, Larry spent his time visiting friends, taking drives and reading. Larry loved his family and children. He was known to his nieces and nephews as Uncle Barney.
He was happiest while camping and playing cards and teaching pinochle to someone new. He enjoyed dancing as well.
Larry attended Bingen Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife Betty of White Salmon; daughters LaDonna Baehler of Hesperia, CA, Lela Gogin of Idaho Falls, ID, and Tracy Dillingham of Dufur, OR; his mother Mildred Aplin of White Salmon; brother Jim Aplin of Forks, WA; sister Doreen Jaksha of Clatskanie, OR; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his dad, Sam Aplin, in 1980.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 30 at 2:00 PM at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon with interment at the White Salmon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia High School Alumni Scholarship Program.
