Donald Lee Gilmer died Dec. 2, 2006, at the age of 79. Mr. Gilmer was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Klickitat County to Freda Troh and John Gilmer, Sr. He attended grade school at the Snowden schoolhouse and moved to the Portland area with his mother at the age of 10. He then moved back with his dad at the age of 18 before joining the Army. When his tour was completed, he married Laura Mae Vermeire on Aug. 28, 1948. After living in Portland for a year they moved back to White Salmon where they started a family.
Mr. Gilmer worked for several years in the woods logging for Ray Yarnell, SDS, Amel Burris and Ray Verley before hiring on with the Klickitat County Shop where he retired from.
Mr. Gilmer is survived by his daughters Joyce McGraw, White Salmon and Debra Shockman, Stanfield, Ore.; four grandchildren, Tanya Guler, White Salmon, Todd McGraw, New Mexico, and Stepanie Olea and Misty Johansen, both of Hermiston, Ore.; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Mae and sons Loren Donald "Buddy" Gilmer and Michael Lee Gilmer.
Memorials may be made to the Ray Yasui Dialysis Center in Hood River or the Oregon Veteran's Home in The Dalles. This can be done through Gardner Funeral Home, PO Box 390, White Salmon, Wash., 98672, who is in charge of arrangements.
Services for Mr. Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Pinecrest Church of the Nazarene in White Salmon.

PHILIP WENNER
Philip Leslie "Phil" Wenner, 59, Bingen, died at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon on Dec. 4, 2006.
Born in Glendale, Calif., Mr. Wenner lived in Bingen for 28 years where he and his wife, Della Wenner, managed the Columbia Gorge Court apartments.
Mr. Wenner loved the outdoors and he and his wife served as hosts at Moss Creek camp ground for 13 years. He liked fishing, elk hunting and picking cherries. Another hobby Mr. Wenner enjoyed was tinkering with and repairing small engines.
Mr. Wenner is survived by his wife Della; sister Patty Snow of Everett; brother Dennis Wenner of South Carolina; and stepchildren Kenneth Holland of Eugene, Ore. and Shana Jewel of Vida, Ore.
A potluck celebration of life will be held at the Bingen Eagles Hall, 318 W. Steuben, on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. Cremation arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.
