VENETA LAWSON
Veneta Lucille Odle was born in Marinesco, Mich., on March 3, 1909, the daughter of Mary Ann (Smith) and George Thomas Odle. She died in Hood River, Ore., on November 30, 2007, at the age of 98.
When she was a teenager, she moved to Bluette Pass. It was there she married Fred Steinbach. He died on Labor Day of 1973. Later, she married William Lawson in August of 1974 in Glenwood. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Lawson was a homemaker and always loved to have kids around. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, camping and picking huckleberries, but most of all she enjoyed visiting with her kids and grandchildren
She was a member of the Glenwood Grange and Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her son Fred Steinbach, Glenwood; daughter Merdith Smith, Bingen; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, 47 great, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son George Steinbach, daughter Veneta Dean, sisters Rose Westgate and Mary Guffey, brothers Adam Odle, George Odle, Davey Odle, John Odle and Earl Odle.
A funeral service, officiated by Robert Long and Warren Frudd, will be held at Gardner Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles, Ore.

NEVA JEAN BURRIS
A funeral service for Jean Burris, 77, who died at her home in Goldendale on Nov. 24, 2007, was held at Gardner Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2077 at 1:00 p.m. Neva Jean Jones was born April 13, 1930, in Mountain View, Mo., to Anna Mae (Daniels) and Reuben Rufus Jones.
She moved to Washington State at the age of 12 and started working at the age of 13 in fruit produce in packing sheds, field work, as a waitress and at a jewelry store. She met Leonard Francis Burris, a logger from White Salmon, and they were married Nov. 8, 1952.
She made quilts and loved to sew. Mrs. Burris loved to travel and drove her children to New York and back, which was a happy trip. She picked huckleberries for many years with her children, went camping, and always was ready to help anyone who needed help. She frequently donated to Boys' and Girls' Town and also for dogs' and cats' shelter.
She received a citizenship award for helping those in need. She was baptized in the Dalles at The Seventh day Adventist church and also at the Methodist church in Lyle.
Mrs. Burris is survived by children Susan "Mickey" Burris, Leonard Francis Burris, Jr, Teresa Carlene Burris, Melody Dianna Burris, Christine Meleta Burris; stepchildren Dale Burris and Andrena Burris; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their Grandma Burris and were dearly loved by her. She was preceded in death by husband Leonard Francis Burris, daughters Joyce Ann Morse and Janet Gale Comier, and sisters Helen Louise Burris and Vinita Lorene Kollmar.
She will be missed dearly by everyone.
LAURA SCHAEFER
Laura Douglass Schaefer, 21, of Hood River, died in Denmark on Nov. 11, 2007, of a pulmonary embolism.
A gathering to share memories will be in early December.

LARRY SPRING
A memorial service for Larry Spring, who died in Trout Lake on Nov. 14, 2007, at the age of 55, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. He was born to Myrtle A. (Nave) and John A. Spring in Hood River, Ore., on Dec. 1, 1951.
Mr. Spring worked as a truck driver for various companies, a job he loved. He also belonged to the Harley owners' group and enjoyed fishing. He took great pride in everything he did and always went out of his way to make everyone around laugh and smile. He loved his family more than anything and especially loved family gatherings and holidays. Mr. Spring's grandchildren and great-grandchildren always put a smile on his face. He was the most caring, loving and dedicated man around who was loved by all and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his father, John A. Spring; daughters Teresa Spring, Serena Bridger, Terena Cochran and Stephanie McNabb; sisters Sheri Proebstel and Brenda Spring; brother Rick Spring; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Spring, and his mother Myrtle Nave Spring.
