ARMINTA GRANT
Longtime Klickitat county resident Arminta "Mickey" F. Grant died on March 10, 2003, in Lyle. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Grant was born to James and Clara (Harding) Cochran in Racket, Mo., on July 20, 1910. She was raised in Missouri and at the age of 16 moved west to San Diego, Calif. where, during the war, she worked in an airplane factory.
It was also in California where she married her husband, Ermon E. Grant. In 1946, the couple moved to Washington. They had a ranch in Snowden and built their own log cabin. They lived on the ranch until 1975 when they moved into town.
Mrs. Grant enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
Surviving Mrs. Grant are her stepson James L. Grant, Longview, and two grandsons, Joe Lazaro, Jerome, Ariz. and Tim Petersen, Culver City, Calif.
Preceding Mrs. Grant in death are her husband, Ermon who died in 1988, daughters Virginia Lee Petersen and the actress Fay Spain; and sisters Sally Hubbs and Clara Todd.
Funeral services were held at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 11 a.m., with celebrant Bob Huskey officiating.
Interment took place at the White Salmon Cemetery.
GEORGE SNODGRASS
Carson resident George Washington Snodgrass died at his home on March 11, 2003, at the age of 80.
He was born to Isaac Wesley and Harriett (Greenley) Snodgrass on August 11, 1922, in Walton, W.V., where he was raised and attended school.
Mr. Snodgrass entered the U.S. Navy and served his country from Dec. 29, 1941, to Dec. 15, 1945. After his discharge from military service, Mr. Snodgrass moved from Bremerton to Buena, in the Yakima Valley. On January 25, 1947, Mr. Snodgrass married Thelma Jones in Goldendale.
Mr. Snodgrass was an equipment operator in dam construction and worked on every dam in the state of Washington, the last being in North Bonneville. He also drove log trucks.
Mr. and Mrs. Snodgrass lived in Moses Lake for 22 years before moving to Carson in 1991.
Surviving Mr. Snodgrass are his wife, Thelma, Carson; daughter Ginger Phillips, Stevenson; sons George Wesley Snodgrass, Carson, Gregory Wayne Snodgrass, Cathlamet, and Ronald Isaac Snodgrass, Moses Lake; brothers Isaac Wesley Snodgrass, Walton, W.Va. and R.W. Snodgrass, Akron, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Snodgrass in death were one brother, one sister, two half-brothers and six half-sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Carson Bible Church in Carson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 5064, Vancouver, Wash. 98668.

ROBERT NICHOLS
Robert James Nichols, 42, died at his home in Stabler, on March 11, 2003. He was born on Sept. 11, 1960, in Renton, the son of Mary Ellen (Regan) and Robert Colman Nichols. Mr. Nichols grew up in North Powder, Ore. and graduated from North Powder High School. He attended Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande, majoring in forestry.
Mr. Nichols spent time traveling the United States, then worked in construction. He liked playing on his computer, camping, rock climbing and gold mining with friends in the North Powder area.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his sisters Judy Jones, Underwood and Teresa Manning, Bingen; brother John Estes, Klickitat; aunt Charlotte Peters, Hood River, Ore.; 12 nephews and one niece.
Gardner Funeral Home's Columbia River Crematory handled the cremation. Private family services will be held.
DORA FOSTER
On Friday, March 14, 2003, in her home at Husum, our precious and loving mother and grandma, Dora Slocum Foster, died at the age of 86, after a 5-year struggle with cancer.
Dora Florence Baumgarden was born in St. Clair County, Mo. on Nov. 9, 1916, to Marion and Ella (Burns) Baumgarden. Among five children, she was their only daughter. On Jan. 2, 1934, she married Roy Ray Slocum in St. Clair, Mo. The couple had five children and lived in Missouri until 1951 when they moved to Bingen and then later to Underwood. In later years, the couple lived in Toppenish and Randle. After the death of her husband, Roy, in 1968, she moved to Husum in 1969. In July of 1986 she married Omer Foster.
Mrs. Foster worked as a cook in various restaurants during the 1950s and '60s until she started working as a cook at Skyline Hospital, from where she retired. She always enjoyed cooking and serving meals to her family and friends; one could always find "fresh baked goodies" at her home.
Mrs. Foster loved to sew and made beautiful quilts and crocheted items; gifts that her family treasure. She also enjoyed gardening, going to church, dear neighbors who helped her pass the hours playing cards, games and sewing, rides on the Senior Citizen's bus and dining with her friends. Mrs. Foster especially enjoyed spending winter in Arizona and family reunions.
She is survived by her children Doris Reeves, Husum; Calvin Slocum, Packwood; Opal Wilson, Randle; Alvin Slocum, Washougal and Ivan Slocum, Spanaway; brothers Gene Baumgarden and Elmer Baumgarden, both of White Salmon; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ervin and Walter Baumgarden, and two husbands.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2003, at Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon. Officiating was her nephew Rev. Alan Baumgarden together with Rev. Tom Stoltey.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge in care of Gardner Funeral Home.
