DORIS IRENE DEHART
Doris Irene DeHart passed away in Portland on Oct. 21, 2009, at the age of 76. She was born in Oroville on March 31, 1933, to Josephine (Smith) and John Reeder.
She graduated from Tonasket High School in 1951 and moved to White Salmon in the early 60s. She worked for the local newspaper and also packed fruit at Underwood Fruit. She relocated to Hood River in the early 1970s and worked for the telephone company, starting as an operator but eventually working her way up to more responsible positions. She married LeRoy DeHart in the early 80s and retired in the mid-1990s.
Mrs. DeHart is survived by her granddaughters Cameo, Suni and Shelicca Davis; sister Bertha Mae Will and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her two daughters Gloria and Cheryl, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. There will be a light reception following.

LANCE LESLIE
Lance Douglas Leslie died Oct. 25, 2009, in White Salmon. He was 59. Lance was born Dec. 5, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska to Bette (Orr) and Harold Leslie.
The family moved to Seattle when he was about three and it was there that Lance grew up. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1968. He spent several years in Bellingham before settling in the Mid-Columbia area. He worked several different jobs including construction and bartending. But he eventually found his niche working as a clerk at Tum-A-Lum Lumber in Hood River and later Hood River Supply.
Lance loved to gamble, shoot pool and play cards. He followed professional sports on television and considered himself a "sports nut." He was an animal lover, especially cats, and a wildlife advocate. One of his greatest joys, however, was traveling to Hawaii.
Lance is survived by his brother Mike and his wife Deborah; twin sister Kathy Howe and her husband Bruce, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial services for Lance Leslie were held Wednesday Oct. 28, 2009, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.

ROBERT GENE MCKENZIE
Robert Gene McKenzie died at his home in White Salmon on Oct. 27, 2009. He was 77. Bob was born in Brookfield Mo., on April 28, 1932, the only child of Mildred (Safley) and William McKenzie. However, he grew up with his close cousin Don Wine and considered him like a brother.
Bob grew up in Quincy, Ill., and spent a lot of time along the Mississippi River where he fell in love with the birds and the trees.
He served in the Marine Corps from September 1955 to 1958. After serving his country he went to Iowa State University and got a degree in forestry. In 1960, he moved out west to Washington State to be where the big trees were.
He met his wife, Alicia, through an international Pen Pal service. After writing back and forth for months, Bob drove to Mexico and met Alicia and her family. They were married on Nov. 18, 1961, in Salamanca, GTO, Mexico.
Bob took a forestry job with Washington State Department of Natural Resources and that career took him and his family from Colville to Glenwood and finally to Husum where he finally settled. He retired from the DNR after 35 years.
Bob is survived by his wife Alicia; four children Claude McKenzie, Mildred Vanderpool, Billy McKenzie and Jennifer McKenzie; grandchildren Jaclyn Anderson, Jessica Vanderpool and Jacob and Jorden McKenzie.
Bob's hobbies included bird watching, walking in the woods, the Marines, golf, the Seahawks and traveling to exotic lands to add birds to his bird list. He also spent many hours at the Hood River Sports Club and lifted weights since junior high school
Many people knew Bob as a conservative individual with strong views. But he lived his life with an open heart and mind and was willing to take risks. He will be missed by his family and friends here and in Mexico.
A celebration of Robert McKenzie's life was held Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.

DAVID BAILLIE
David Mellen Baillie, 61, passed away at his home in Lyle, on Nov. 1, 2009. He was born October 18, 1948 in Pasadena, California to Mary Frances (Willrich) and William Bruce Baillie.
Survivors include companion Erin Anderson of Lyle; brother Peter King Baillie of Vermilion, Ohio, and sister Linda Mason Baillie Huber of Irvine, Calif.
A memorial gathering will take place at a later date.
