RICHARD SINCLAIR
A celebration of life for longtime East County, Ore., resident Richard "Dick" John Sinclair was held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2002, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gresham. Military rites were held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2002, at Willamette National Cemetery.
Mr. Sinclair was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Elmer and Virginia Sinclair. He died on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in Portland, at the age of 72.
He moved with his family to Washington at the age of 12, and then to Oxnard, Calif., where he attended schools, graduating from Oxnard High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he moved to Corvallis, graduating from Oregon State University in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
He married Elaine Duus in White Salmon on June 13, 1954.
The couple moved to Cincinnati and he worked as a consultant for two years. They moved back to Portland in 1959 and have lived there since. He worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers for 28 years, mainly working on the dams of the Columbia River, retiring in 1989.
He and his wife spent much time traveling, they visited all 50 states. He was very active in the Covenant Church, serving several times as an elder. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and was past master of the Troutdale Masonic Lodge. He had been active as a Boy Scout and Senior Girl Scout Leader. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and his garden.
Mr. Sinclair is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elaine; daughters Lori Mackey, Roseville, Calif., and Juli Matteri, Jordan Valley, Ore.; mother Virginia Sinclair, Milton-Freewater, Ore.; sister Dorothy Holloway, Boulder city, Nev.; and six grandchildren Matthew, Molly, Ryan and Megan Mackey, and Tessa and Jordan Matteri.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel.
KENNETH HOPKINS
61-year-old Kenneth Lloyd Hopkins of Stevenson died on Nov. 5, 2002, while working in Roosevelt.
Mr. Hopkins was born on Sept. 23, 1941, in Riverton, Wyo., to Iola Ethel (Ham) and Chester Myrel Hopkins. His father was an evangelist so the family moved around a lot while while Mr. Hopkins was a child, but settled in Bingen in the early 1950s.
He met Mary Ann Gunter on Halloween of 1957 and they were married on Dec. 27, 1959. Mr. Hopkins worked at Stevenson Co-Ply until it shut down and had been a truck driver ever since.
He loved riding his tractor, working on cars and telling jokes. He enjoyed church and was a member of Faith Tabernacle in Stevenson. He was a family man who loved and took good care of his family. He liked talk radio and news television programs.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, who he respected and loved above all else here on earth; daughters Vickie Clelland and Deborah Hinzman, both of Stevenson, Pamela LaBrache, Vancouver, and Michelle Smith, Lincoln City, Ore.; two brothers Robert Hopkins, North Bonneville, and Edwin Hopkins, Stevenson; sister Linda Jensen, Stevenson; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Faith Tabernacle in Stevenson, with interment to follow at Stevenson Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Kenneth Hopkins Memorial Fund at Riverview Bank in Stevenson.
