GERTRUDE MCCOY
Longtime White Salmon resident, Gertrude Bernice (Vause) McCoy, died Oct. 1, 2010, at the age of 94. A private family service will be held later. Remembrances can be made to the White Salmon Senior Center.
Gertrude was born March 26, 1916 in The Dalles, Ore. She was the first child of Arthur and Hazel (Markham) Vause of Wahkiacus.
Gertrude was raised in Wahkiacus and Klickitat. She graduated from Klickitat High School January 1932 and then moved to Portland to attend beauty school. After completing beauty school that fall, she enrolled in Central Washington College of Education in Ellensburg. She attended only one year because their bank failed in the fall of 1933. Gertrude then returned home to Klickitat and started a beauty shop. She was 17 years old.
Jan. 11, 1941, she married Donald R. McCoy from High Prairie. In 1947, they settled in White Salmon and built the house where Gertrude has lived ever since. Between 1951 and 1975 Gertrude worked part-time as a florist. She was known for her beautiful yard and knowledge of flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and younger sister, Frances (Vause) Honeycutt.
She is survived by her son, Arthur and his wife, Margaret (Ross) of Beaverton, Ore.; grandson, Bruce and his wife, Jennifer (Olson) of Dubai, UAE; grandson, Douglas and his wife, Colleen (O'Neill) of Beaverton, Ore., and their three children, Allison, Courtney, and Sean.

DAVID OHNEMUS
David J. Ohnemus Sr. was lifted to heaven on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Vassar Brothers Hospital.
David was born to Margaret and Omer Ohnemus on Feb. 5, 1931, in South Dakota. The family then moved to the state of Washington, where David graduated from Columbia Union High School and went on to attend Central Washington University.
he joined the United States Navy and proudly served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he married Margaret McGinley on Nov. 27, 1954 at St. Ignatius Church in Hicksville. Margaret survives at home.
They made their home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where David was employed as a foreman with the New York Telephone company for 35 years, retiring in 1990. There, they began their family of four daughters, Dianne, Dorothy, Emma and Jeanne, and son David Jr., all of Dutchess County.
David was the oldest of 12 children and is predeceased by his sisters Darlene and Dixie, and brother Damon. He is survived by his brothers Doug, Dan, Don, Duane, Dixon and Doyle, sisters Diana and Dolores and many nieces and nephews.
JAMES COLVIN
March 15, 1961-Sept. 27, 2010
James Leon Colvin, 49, a resident of Poulsbo, died early Monday morning Sept. 27, 2010, at a Bremerton hospital. James was born May 15, 1961, at March Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif.
James loved music, played guitar and sang with many different musicians in and around the Gorge area, wrote music and lyrics. He was also a talented artist.
James is survived by his wife Anne Colvin, Poulsbo; daughter Jessica and grandchildren Christian and AJ from Tucson, Ariz.; Jim's parents James F. Colvin and Judy A. Colvin, Dallesport; brother Michael F. Colvin, Frankfurt, Germany; and sisters Mary L. Kirby and Anna M. Berger, Portland, Ore.
A memorial will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3586, 4230 NE Lincoln Rd., Poulsbo.
SIERRA ESTEVES
1979 - 2010
Sierra Dawn Esteves, daughter of Joseph Esteves and Mary and Tony Wallace, sister of Garrett Esteves, and fiancee of Mack Junior, passed away Sept. 28, 2010.
In Sierra's passing she requested any donations be submitted to Swedish Medical Center's Brain Cancer Research Fund in Seattle to help defeat brain cancer so others can avoid the suffering she went through.

JERRY WOODS
Gerald Lewis Woods, 78, passed away in The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 25, 2010. He was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Ellensburg to Eva M. (Morefield) and Ernest M. Woods.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later worked as a surveyor in the Seattle area. In 1999, Jerry retired to Lyle. Mr. Woods loved camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed searching for bargains at second-hand stores and trying his luck at gambling and scratch tickets.
Jerry loved animals and was somewhat of a "chicken whisperer."
Mr. Woods is survived by his son Brian Woods of Thailand; daughters Gaylene Woods of West Port and Denise Woods of Seattle; sisters Yvonne Parker of Yakima and Juanita Bellamy of Olympia; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Bradley Woods, sister Esther Kent and brother Harold Woods.
A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima.
