HERBERT BUCK
Herbert Buck, 77, died at his home in Dallesport, on Dec. 13, 2002.
He was born in Burnham, N.M., on Nov. 27, 1925, to Elizabeth (Clyde) and Jim Buck. In 1946, he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad, which brought him to the Northwest. He met Sally Slockish and the two were married in 1947. He continued to work for the railroad until 1958.
He loved fishing and was a skilled net and dip net maker. He was also a silversmith and worked for the Garden at Migati Farms in Dallesport.
Survivors include sister Dorothy Jim, Fruitland, N.M.; brothers Hobert Buck, Kirtland, N.M., Wilbert Buck, Bloomfield, N.M., and Lee Buck, Farmington, N.M. He was preceded in death by wife Sally, brother Harry Buck, and sisters Grace Banally, Meldred Benally, Mary Benally and Sadie Harvey.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Wish-ham Cemetery in Dallesport.
Gardner Funeral Home of White Salmon handled arrangements.
HUBERT HUSS
Ocean Park resident Hubert F. "Bert" Huss, 67, died on Dec. 16, at his home.
Born in Grove, Okla., on Feb. 3, 1935, he was the son of James and Dorothy (Whitson) Huss. During his early childhood, he lived in Oklahoma but he grew up in White Salmon and graduated from Columbia High School.
On Aug. 18, 1953, he married Barbara "Bobbie" Wilson and they made their home in White Salmon. At the time of his death, the couple had been married 49 years.
Mr. Huss worked in the logging industry for 35 years and lived in Clark County for 27 years. For 15 years, he was a motorcycle dealer and had a shop where he built and fine tuned cycles for many who raced at the Portland, Ore., cycle track. He was mayor of La Center for four years (1977 to 1980) and was then elected to the La Center City Council. He and his wife lived in Cougar before retiring to Ocean Park in 1990.
A man of many interests, he was an accomplished welder and fabricator. He collected vintage motorcycles and was a Harley enthusiast. He was a member of Mt. Adams Elks Lodge for 42 years and a member of both the Moose and Eagles Lodges in Ocean Park.
He was preceded in death by son Brian Huss in 1980. He is survived by wife, Bobbie; son Rodney Huss, Ocean Park; daughters Karen Alford, Camas, and Barbara Huss-Wilcox, Vancouver; brother Walter Huss, Yuba City, Calif.; six grandchildren, a niece, 5 nephews and numerous friends.
Private cremation has been held.
At his request, no public service was scheduled.
Arrangements were by Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach.
