Maryhill Museum of Art invites the public to visit Artistry of Space on Artrain USA in Wishram, from June 13 through 16.
Artrain USA features five rail cars housing the exhibition, an interactive photo booth, an artists' studio and a gift shop.
Admission is free.
This engaging exhibition consists of paintings, drawings, prints and sketches that capture the excitement and energy of America's space program. Exhibition artists include Peter Max, Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol, and James Wyeth.
NASA has conducted an art program since 1962. Now 78 works of art from its collection travel via Artrain USA to towns throughout the nation in the Artistry of Space tour, sponsored by DaimlerChrysler. A special display of cars by DaimlerChrysler will be at Artrain courtesy of C.H. Urness Motors of The Dalles. The local venue sponsor is the Bank of America Foundation and Golden Northwest Aluminum. Transportation to Wishram is provided by Burlington Northern and Santa Fe.
The exhibition features works ranging from Norman Rockwell's painting Man's First Step on the Moon to Andy Warhol's silk screen print Moonwalk (1). Community volunteers will lead tours of the exhibit and local artists will give demonstrations each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"Everyone will get to travel to the moon and the stars on a train," said Colleen Schafroth, executive director of Maryhill Museum. "It's a wonderful way to experience space and art. Maryhill is pleased to make it possible for Artrain USA to visit."
