Marion McNew of Mount Hood Gardens Inc. was honored with two national design awards this summer for her work in the Stratton Gardens Rose Garden in Hood River.
McNew traveled to Salt Lake City and Knoxville, Tenn., to receive her awards.
In July she received an “Honor Award” at the annual symposium of the Perennial Plant Association (PPA) in Knoxville, the organization’s highest level of achievement. The PPA is an international organization of landscape designers and nursery professionals.
McNew was honored in August at the Association of Professional Landscape Designers’ (APLD) annual conference in Salt Lake City with a “Gold” award in the commercial category. The APLD is based in Harrisburg, Pa.
The Stratton Gardens Rose Garden is located adjacent to Horsefeathers Brewpub at 115 State St. McNew designed the garden in 2002. The project was made possible by a bequest from the late Brick Stratton to the City of Hood River.
McNew studied at the University of Hannover in Germany and holds a Master of Science in Horticulture. She designed the Georgiana Smith Park recently completed at the Hood River County Library.
Mount Hood Gardens specializes in residential and commercal landscape design. The company recently marked its 20th anniversary.
