On Saturday, Oct. 6, Maryhill Museum will present Dr. Brigid Boardman and Elizabeth Hunter who will speak on the topic of R.H. Ives Gammell and Carl Jung
.
This is followed on Sunday, Oct. 7, with a presentation by Mary Schlick on Columbia River Basketry.
Both lectures are at 2 p.m.
Dr. Boardman is an English scholar and an authority on the poem, The Hound of Heaven, by Francis Thompson, on which the paintings series by R.H. Ives Gammel is based.
She is also the author of Between Heaven and Charing Cross: The Life of Francis Thompson, the definitive biography of Francis Thompson and The Hound of Heaven by Francis Thompson, as Interpreted Through the Paintings of R.H. Ives Gammell. She lives and teaches in England and lectures internationally.
Hunter is the coauthor of the book, Transcending Vision: R.H. Ives Gammell. An exhibit of the same title, which she curated, is currently on display at Maryhill Museum.
Hunter is the goddaughter of R.H. Ives Gammell and curatorial advisor to the R.H. Ives Gammell Studios Trust in Boston, Mass. She lectures in the U.S. and Europe on Gammell and his work.
For a change of pace, on Sunday, the museum will present a talk about Columbia River basketry by noted scholar and author Mary Schlick. Schlick's decades long study of the work of Native American basket makers culminated in the publication of the book, Columbia River Basketry: Gift of the Earth, Gift of the Ancestors. Her discussion will present the history of basket making by Native Americans from throughout the Columbia Plateau Region.
