Senior Callan Johnson ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns and Lyle-Klickitat-Wishram's defense held visiting Soap Lake scoreless in the second half as the Cougars won their 2004 season finale, 47-28, last Saturday.
The Cougars (2-6) piled up season-highs in points scored and yardage gained in winning their second game in a row.
"It was an exciting way to end the season," Cougars Coach David Barthlow said.
LKW took control of the seesaw game on the opening drive of the second half, holding the ball for more than eight minutes before Johnson scored on a short run.
That touchdown broke a 28-28 tie. The Cougars added two more scores in the fourth quarter to win going away.
The Eagles, meanwhile, couldn't get their offense untracked in the third and fourth quarters against an LKW defensive unit that, for the second game in a row, "really stepped it up in the second half, shutting down the Soap Lake running game," Barthlow noted.
Other offensive standouts for the Cougars included senior running back Dusty Vorce (57 yards rushing, two scores); sophomore running back Noah LaFrenz (112 yards rushing, one TD), and senior quarterback Devan Essex (one rushing TD, 54 yards passing).
As a team, LKW totaled 477 yards of offense and averaged 9 yards per play from scrimmage.
