Library to hold annual holiday wassail

Local artists and artisans will be on hand to informally demonstrate their craft and inspiration. Wood carver Wayne Stone of Underwood will be working on his latest project; fiber artists from the Northwest Regional Spinning Association will be demonstrating spinning, knitting and other fiber techniques; and avid rock hounds, Bill, Mary and Murphy Jackson of Parkdale will be sharing their hobby of collecting rock materials. Bill has been an avid rock collector for nearly 50 years and it has become a fun family experience.

"Painting in Fabric," an exhibit of fiber art and art quilts by Joan Schueman Ahlers will be on display in the Sprint/Baker Gallery during the Wassail and throughout the month of December.

Children are invited to create a variety of hands-on Holiday Crafts throughout the afternoon.

The music lineup this year will start with The Fourth Dimension quartet singing Harmony Holiday Carols from 1:30 to 2 p.m. The dynamic quartet features Kristin Reese, lead; Nola Hardman, tenor; Christie Wilcox, baritone; and Rhonda Smith, bass. The group has been singing together for more than five years. They love to share the gift of a cappella harmony. Between the four of them, they have more than 40 years experience as members of the award-winning Hood River Valley Sweet Adelines chorus.

The Gadzukes, with Diane and Roger Gadway on fiddle, guitar, mandolin and ukulele will be playing from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Trout Lake pianist Judy Skelton will be playing a variety of seasonal songs and accompany holiday sing-a-longs throughout the afternoon until 4 p.m.

Friends of the Library will provide a delicious array of sweet and savory refreshments along with their traditional hot Wassail punch.
