Dumpster Days is coming, where large dumpsters are available for free "donations" of refuse, excluding insulation, batteries, propane bottles, paint or household chemicals. There will also be a truck for metal recycling and household appliances as well. Drop your stuff off on April 14 or 15 between 8:30 am and 5 p.m. and a little donation to cover costs is always welcome. Call Penny at 365 -2700 to volunteer, or for any questions.
Bill Casey, retired fire chief in Lyle, was guest speaker at the last High Prairie meeting, sharing his involvement from 1961 with his passion for fire fighting. Bill specialized in wildland fires with the federal government and spent many years being called into areas where fire suppression became too much for the local departments to manage. Bill emphasized that "good fire protection is not cheap" and so training is a key component. He also extolled the "Firewise" program which makes homes defensible and allows for better public safety and well as person safety. The newer paradigm that some fires can be productive and just need to be managed, such as a recent one on Mt. Adams, was discussed.
A very informative class on "Identity Theft" will be offered at the Community Center on Wednesday, April 11, at 5 p.m. and is open to everyone. It would be helpful (though not required) if participants register ahead of time so as to have adequate materials available. Call Audrey.
