In conjunction with a display of Depression glass currently on view at the White Salmon Valley Community Library, local collector Maryann Stembridge will be offering a presentation on identifying and collecting Depression glass.
The program will take place on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. in the library's Sprint/Baker Gallery.
Stembridge encourages attendees to bring their own Depression glass pieces for identification and discussion.
The term Depression glass refers to American-manufactured, functional glassware that was mass-produced in the 1920s through the end of WWII. This glassware was manufactured in many colors including pink, green, cobalt blue and clear.
The glassware was used for promotional activities and saved at least one company from bankruptcy. Learn about the abundance of patterns, companies involved and the impact of the Depression glass industry on America.
Manufactured glassware was one of the least expensive items of the era and yet has lasted through today and can be rather expensive. The beauty of the glassware was a boost to the morale of the family during this depressed time in the American economy.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
The Depression glass display will continue through the month of April and may be viewed during regular library hours.
