Columbia High's girls jayvee basketball team posted season highs in several categories in its 47-20 non-league verdict against the Stevenson jayvee here Dec. 13.
The 47 points were the most scored by the Junior Bruins, who tallied 15 in the second quarter to tie their season-high for offensive output in a period.
Other season bests included margin of victory, 2-point field goals made (17), free throws attempted (18) and free throws made (10).
Freshman Corrine Blankenship helped lead the Junior Bruins to their fourth victory in five games, and a season-series sweep of the Pups, scoring a career-high 11 points.
Varsity reserves Bobbi Ziegler (9) and Shelly Putnam (4) also played key roles in the win, coming off the bench to combine for 13 points.
Sophomore Jessica Mosbrucker added six counters, and freshman Megan Harvey tallied 3-of-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to finish with five points.
Sophomores Krista Bakke, Katie Mansfield and Meghan McCutcheon contributed four points apiece. Bakke had the team's only 3-point field goal.
The Junior Bruins got off to a 10-6 lead in the first quarter but increased the margin to 25-9 by halftime.
The rival jayvees played nearly even up in the third period, but the fourth was all CHS.
That's because the defensive-minded Junior Bruins held the Pups scoreless in the final eight minutes to win going away.
At Columbia JV 25, Portland Adventist JV 13 --
The Junior Bruins blanked the Cubs in the second and third quarters Dec. 6 en route to their third win.
They trailed 6-1 after one quarter but outscored the Cubs 7-0 in the second period to lead 8-6 at halftime.
A 15-0 blitz in the third -- their highest scoring period to date -- put the Junior Bruins comfortably ahead.
Sophomore Shelly Putnam topped the CHS scoring list with nine points in a reserve role.
Among the starters, freshman Corrine Blankenship scored a high of six.
Sophomore Katie Mansfield and junior Bobbi Ziegler each put in four. Soph Jessica Mosbrucker added two.
At Goldendale JV 54, Columbia JV 16 --
The Timberpups dealt the Junior Bruins their first setback of the season Dec. 4, taking a commanding 31-7 first-half lead in the process.
The Junior Bruins (2-1) played the Timberpups straight up in the third but couldn't overcome the huge halftime deficit.
Sophomore Kelsay Knutson paced the CHS crew with four points.
Sophomores Krista Bakke and Shelly Putnam followed in the scoring column; each hit a 3-pointer to finish with three points.
Junior Bobbi Ziegler and sophomores Katie Mansfield and Jessica Mosbrucker had two points apiece.
