Fall, a glorious spread of colors and a great time to be outdoors in the fresh air. We were up at Goose Lake taking in the view and talking to some fisherman. One man said he had caught some nineteen inch trout the day before. He showed us how his pontoon boat put together. Just as he took off, rowing down the lake towards the creek, a school of trout swam by us. The fish were following the fisherman!
This weekend it was time to turn our clocks back. As for me, I would like to leave our clocks alone: I wonder why we still have this loss of daylight? Do the cows really care? Do the hunters, fisherman, farmers, hikers, campers care? I wonder.

Hello, Trout Lakers. I think winter is upon us. Now, if only it would rain. The two seconds worth we had a couple of nights ago just isn't cutting it. We're still having to water our lawns and trees and other plants. That's a first for any October since we've lived here. I walk with a group of women everyday and most days it's only about 30 degrees. The cloud cover makes it warmer, but the chill factor from the wind offsets that. Thank goodness someone invented earmuffs.
Did you hear the middle school girls volleyball team won the Year End Tournament after winning its league championship? Good job, girls. AND the soccer team won the 2002 Academic Championship. That's quite an accomplishment. The coaches submit the teams grade point averages to the soccer league officials and the GPAs are compared to other teams' and our team won. Hot stuff. Keep up the good work!
Yellow Thunder asked that a correction to her article a couple of weeks ago be corrected. The current recommendation for woodstove cleaning is twice annually, instead of once, to maintain fire safety.
We're still planning on meeting, beginning the first Wednesday of November, to support each others' weight loss and/or toning efforts. Call me on 395-2760 if you're interested and I'll get the specifics out to you.
From Jim White: Don't forget the Community Council election on November 5! It'll be held at the grange, same time and right next door to the general election. Other Community Council news: The council's meeting date has changed from the second Wednesday to the first Wednesday of the month. The next Council meeting is Nov. 6, 8 p.m. at the Grange. Topics on the agenda include the election results, and the annual visit by Klickitat County PUD representatives. Also, on the agenda will be presentations of local proposals for Economic Development funds. The county distributes some landfill funds to local communities for projects of community benefit, and asks the community councils to prioritize proposals from their community.
A plea from the Trout Lake Newswriters (all two of us!): We're still looking for guest articles from the community. I know some of you have some great stories to tell or interesting information to share. Send it to me at the email address listed below my name, or call me and give me the info and I'll write it up. Also, send us any announcements that need to be shared with the community and we'll include them when we write. You can tell by my articles, I'm getting desperate for topics! Thanks.
