There still are occasional spottings of meadowlarks and western bluebirds before winter sets in. The deer are unusually abundant, but residents hope hunters will respect private properties. Thankfully, the fall rains have reduced forest/brush fire dangers.
A "going away" party will be held for long-time resident Martha Hamil on Friday, Oct. 21, at the home of Karron Buchanon, 440 Schilling Road from 4-8 p.m. RSVP to 365-9576.
Fern Johnson will be leading a new "Beginning Belly Dance" six week exercise class at the High Prairie Community Center on Sundays at 10 a.m., beginning Oct. 23. One can pay $5 per session or $20 per month.
Don Slusher has begun a series of ballroom dance classes on Monday evenings, beginning at 7:30 p.m. with seven couples, and room for more. This series features the "waltz" and its variations at a fee of $10 per couple.
Zumba has resumed with Sarah Thompson, meeting on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Tai Chi led by Janet Essley of White Salmon now takes place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
And if these options aren't enough, Pilates excercise class occurs at the Lyle Activity Center, corner of 3rd and Klickitat streets for $6 on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The first of two "Oktoberfests" were held this past weekend at Morning Song Acres. Everyone participated in making 40 pounds of German bratwurst for themselves, pressing apple juice, dancing the polka and "Chicken Dance" plus, of course, German cuisine meals and drink. Participants also enjoyed watching the moons around Jupiter, thanks to Jim White's "What's In the Sky?" article in last week's Enterprise article.
