The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society is sponsoring a rare event: On July 6, two historic steam locomotives will roll through the Columbia River Gorge on a special run from Portland to Wishram, via Bingen and Lyle.

The locomotives, which will run as a double-header, are the former Southern Pacific No. 4449 and former Spokane, Portland & Seattle No. 700.
