Morning Sun and Steider Studios have joined forces to present a Glass Showcase during Blossom Festival at the Hood River Hotel.
An extravaganza of glass, the two artists have blown, fused, torched and cast so much glass between them that the downstairs ballroom will be overwhelmed with shimmering glass.
Charlene Fort of Morning Sun Studio and Linda Steider of Steider Studios were involved with the Blossom Festival Glass Show in 2005 held at the Mt. Hood Railroad Depot and sponsored by the Oregon Glass Guild. Steider was also a co-producer of Glass in the Gorge in 2001 & 2002.
They decided to bring a Glass Showcase back to the Blossom Festival for 2007.
"Earlier glass shows have been so well received that we wanted to bring back the opportunity for festival goers to see what we're doing with glass today in the Gorge" said Steider.
Fort added, "We're both avid gardeners and passionate about glass, so it's only natural that some of our focus will be towards garden art. We think you'll be delighted with these whimsical pieces."
Along that same vein, David Palomino will present his hand made rustic twig garden furnishings, including planters and benches as accompaniment in the garden section of the Showcase.
Palomino, a retired Portland firefighter and self taught musician found his passion with music. He will entertain with his ukulele and voice Saturday afternoon from 2 until 4 p.m. in a bluesy rock style, reminiscent of Jimmy Buffet.
The Showcase opens Friday evening, April 20, with musical entertainment by Julia Ghiz and John Francombe, regulars at the Hood River Hotel, from 6 until 8 p.m. They have been performing together for a year and are looking forward to the release of their first CD, which will possibly be available at the opening. Ghiz and Francombe offer a mix of blues and country that touch the soul and warm the heart.
Light refreshment and a no host bar will be available Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., for the Showcase opening in the downstairs ballroom of the Hood River Hotel.
Saturday hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., with light refreshment, entertainment and no host bar available 2 until 4.
