Father Luigi Rossi: Pioneer, Story-teller, Chaplain and Missionary, a living history, will be performed by Ray Egan in the White Salmon Valley Community Library's Sprint/Baker Gallery on Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
In an Italian accent, and in Rossi's own words taken from his memoirs, Egan portrays this humorous, heroic, dedicated priest-chaplain who loves America and Americans with great passion. Rossi (1817-1871) provides vivid pictures of the rugged life endured by the early pioneers in the 1850s in Washington Territory. He describes his trials and tribulations with soldiers who drank, and with Methodists who didn't. Rossi also tells of the time he delivered a sermon in Mother Damnable's house of questionable repute, in the village of Seattle.
Egan, actor, playwright and historian, has performed in over 200 libraries, museums, schools and houses of worship. He was selected for two 2-year tours with the Washington Commission for the Humanities Inquiring Mind Program. Summer 2004 will mark his ninth year of performing at the famed National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Baker City, Ore.
