Oh, and s’mores will also be served.

Ian Rand, a senior at Hood River Valley High School, will host a fundraiser for his Extended Application (EA) project — an all-ages Super Bowl 50 event at Springhouse Cellar to benefit the Emergency Voucher Program administrated through St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Pizza catering will be provided by Solstice Wood Fire Café, which will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the Voucher Program. Beverages will be available from Springhouse.

It all happens Sunday from 3-5 p.m. The football game will be projected on a large screen. Springhouse is located next to the Mt. Hood Railroad terminal, at First and Cascade streets.

Rand said he looked around for ideas for his EA, and then realized he could make use of his experience at Solstice, where he has prepared pizzas for the popular mobile pizza oven and worked for the café’s catering service.

Rand said he considered a variety of causes to benefit from his Super Bowl party and decided on the Voucher Program after it was suggested by his pastor, Denny Anderson of Vineyard Fellowship in Hood River. Rand said the program committee had recently notified supporters of the need for infusion of funds.

Rand said he saw the Super Bowl party as a fun way to raise funds and awareness.

Each HRVHS student is required, as a junior or senior, to do an EA — to apply what they have learned in planning and carrying out an extended activity, enterprise or project.

Rand has lived in Hood River County since he was four and has worked the past three summers at Solstice, assisting owners Aaron and Suzanne Baumhackl and catering manager Natalie Price. His sister, Ella, a sophomore, also works as a server, and their mother, Dawn, is bookkeeper for the business.

“It’s great to see one of my young employees take something and run with it,” Aaron Baumhackl said, joking, “And I’m always glad when someone else does the work!”
