The first District 5/7/9 Class B fast-pitch softball tournament gets underway this Saturday at 9 a.m. in Toppenish.
Greater Columbia B League champion Klickitat is the top seed and one of two teams in the double-elimination tournament to get a first-round bye. The other is the GCB runnerup, which could be Lyle or Sunnyside Christian.
The Cougars and the Knights are currently tied for second place in GCB standings. They play off this Thursday at 4 p.m. in Lyle to determine seeding for district.
The top-seeded Vandals will play their tournament opener against the winner of the day's second preliminary, which starts at 9. Their opponent could be either Glenwood/Trout Lake, Lyle or Sunnyside Christian.
The GCB's second-place team will get the winner of the early-morning preliminary between Asotin and Davenport.
All six teams in the field are in their first year of fast-pitch competition after years of slow-pitch.
The top two teams will advance to the eight-team state tournament, on May 24-25 at Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee.
Following is the district tournament schedule. Two games will be played simultaneously until Game 9. Spectators can expect at least a half hour's wait between games.

Game 6 --
Loser of Game 2 vs. Loser of Game 3. Loser out.
Game 7 --
Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4. Winner to state.
Game 8 --
Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6. Loser out.
