Summer GED classes are now in session!
Clark College is providing an instructor to teach self-paced and instructor-led GED preparation classes and Adult Basic Education (ABE) at the White Salmon WorkSource office.
Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday, 1 to 4:45 p.m., now through Aug. 23.
Tuition is $25 per quarter. Free tuition is available to students receiving governmental financial assistance.
Why, during this time of higher education budget cuts, is Clark expanding their services? Because students asked for it.
Throughout the past several months, proactive GED prep students have asked their instructor, Pam Ritzenthaler, if classes could be offered during the summer. So Ritzenthaler lobbied the administrators at Clark for the additional offering.
For more than two decades Clark College has partnered with WorkSource Columbia Gorge to provide GED and ABE, as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
The WorkSource offices provide classroom space for these educational programs. The GED classes are held in Room 103 at the WorkSource office located at 107 W. Jewett Blvd in White Salmon.
Most of the students that attend the GED and ABE classes are working toward the goal of earning their GED. They are confident to take the GED tests after all of the work they do in classes.
After taking assessment tests that help determine each student's skill levels, the work each student does each session is based on their individual need.
Instructors review and teach basic skills needed for each level focusing specifically on fundamental math computation skills, essay writing skills, grammar practice, reading strategies, and reading comprehension skills.
Students each work at their own pace through the subjects. A variety of methods are available to learn the GED subject areas of Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science.
To register for these classes, drop in any Tuesday or Thursday, between 1 and 4:30 p.m., at the WorkSource Columbia Gorge White Salmon office.
For information call instructor Ritzenthaler at 493-5034, or email her at pritzenthaler@clark.edu
