CHS jayvee football team opens season with victory

On defense, sophomore defensive end Vic Wild had five tackles for loss and forced a fumble, which junior David Simmons recovered to set up CHS' second touchdown.

In addition, defensive backs Keith Ingram and Josabet Pulido intercepted passes snuff out a Tenino drive in the first period, and another in the third.

The Junior Bruins took a 22-0 lead 19 seconds before halftime when Bryan hooked up with freshman Adam Shirk for the second time, for a two-point conversion that capped Bryan's second touchdown plunge.

Bryan's first TD (with 4:03 left in the first quarter) followed a 48-yard dash by Simmons that moved the chains from CHS' 49-yard line to Tenino's 3-yard line.

Sophomore fullback Phillip Wilson plowed in from the Tenino 1-yard line with 5:55 remaining in the second quarter, for a touchdown that led to a 14-0 lead.

Bryan concluded CHS' scoring in the third quarter when he, running option, turned the corner around right end and sprinted untouched down the visitors' sideline en route to an 84-yard touchdown.

Each team also had a touchdown negated by a clipping penalty.

CHS junior Kevin Leis had a 39-yard scoring run late in the third quarter wiped out by a clipping. On the ensuing play, CHS fumbled the snap and Tenino fell on the ball.

Seconds later, however, Pulido recouped it for CHS with an interception at the Tenino 30.

But with less than a minute to go in the period, CHS fumbled and the Junior Beavers' Jesse Grove picked up the ball at his own 25 and returned it 75 yards for a TD.

That score didn't stand, though, because officials flagged Tenino for clipping.

However, Tenino did eventually put points on the board late in the the fourth quarter.
