According to the BBC News (British Broadcasting Co.), a man who went to school in White Salmon is currently on trial in London, England, for the alleged murder of a former co-worker.
Matthew Fagan, 33, has been charged with the Jan. 13, 2007, slaying of Cathy Marlow, a 28-year-old finance manager for Research Now, a market research firm in London.
British news reports said Fagan -- a 1994 graduate of Columbia High School in White Salmon -- has lived in the United Kingdom since 2000.
Testimony in the case revealed that Marlow went to her London office on a Saturday to catch up on her work and discovered Fagan there with an accomplice, allegedly stealing laptop computers.
In testimony before the Central Criminal Court of London, Fagan admitted to stealing six laptop computers and tying Marlow up after she discovered him in her office, but denies he killed her.
The BBC reported Fagan told the jury that Marlow recognized him and started shouting. After a struggle, Marlow was tied up.
Fagan claimed that Marlow was alive when he left the building.
"I went into the hallway where Catherine was sitting, basically to say I was sorry about everything that happened, but I am sure if she stayed there she would be all right. She was just sitting there and staring and glaring at me," the BBC quotes Fagan as telling the court.
According to the court testimony of a pathologist, Marlow died from asphyxia due to strangulation.
Fagan reportedly worked for Research Now as a Web production manager for about a year before being fired in April 2006. The reason for Fagan's termination from Research Now was not revealed in the court reports or press coverage of the trial.
The court case against Fagan is continuing.
A verdict is expected sometime next week, according to a BBC source.
