The grand unveiling ceremony for the White Salmon Centennial Quilt will take place on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 3-5 p.m. at the Pioneer Center.
The group of quilters who created the quilt -- which commemorates White Salmon's first 100 years, from June 3, 1907, to June 3, 2007 -- will be honored at the event.
The quilt will be presented to Klickitat County Commissioners Don Struck and David Sauter, who will accept the quilt on behalf of the Pioneer Center. The quilt will remain there for public display.
During the ceremony, the background story of the quilt process -- which includes 30 individually designed blocks illustrating the history and remembrances of White Salmon -- will be presented by Joan Ahlers, Pat Paulsen, Linnie Talman Balsiger, and Etta Hepner. The quilt blocks were created using several different techniques, including embroidery, ribbons, and hand painting. More than two dozen people worked on the quilt project.
During the Oct. 7 ceremony, Senior Services will sell refreshments as a fundraiser to benefit the Senior Center.
