Everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28 and 29, when the 5th annual Cabin Fever Festival returns to Trout Lake. This free community event promises to offer some winter fun for everyone. The festival organizers want to thank Marjorie Mitchell for sharing her graphic design talents on this year's beautiful poster. It is on display in various locations in town and you are welcome to look at it to find an event that interests you.
Popular repeat events this year include Saturday's cross-country ski race at 9:30 a.m. and a guided snowshoe walk at 10 a.m. This is a great opportunity to try out snowshoeing with free loaner pairs of snowshoes available. There will be activities for kids beginning at 1 p.m., an avalanche awareness clinic at 2 p.m., followed by the community dinner at 5:30 p.m.
New to the festival this year will be the "Super Bowl of Soup Challenge," offering a $50 gift certificate to Annz Panz for the 1st place winners and $20 gift certificates to the Trout Lake Country Inn for the 2nd place winners. There will be two categories: soup with meat and vegetarian soup. Get out those hearty winter soup recipes and good luck to everyone who participates!
If you missed seeing the "March of the Penguins" in the theater or if you want to see it again, you are welcome to come and see it on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the school. It will be shown on the large screen and a children's movie "Madagascar" will be offered at the same time.
The Trout Lake Country Inn crew will be hosting another one of their fun theme parties also on Saturday evening at 9 p.m. Dig out your favorite Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops and sunglasses for an enjoyable escape to the tropics at this Hawaiian beach party and dance.
On Sunday the festival concludes with an open house at the historic Peterson Prairie Guard Station, located west of the Atkisson Sno-Park. Forest Service archaelogists Cheryl Mack and Rick McClure welcome skiers, snowshoers and snowmobilers to stop in from 12 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for refreshments and an opportunity to learn more about the early days in the Mt. Adams Ranger District.
Hope this cures everyone's cabin fever. For more information call 395-2617.
