Author and geologist Bruce Bjornstad will give an illustrated lecture about the Ice Age (or "Missoula") floods during the Indian Creek Open House event on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Hood River Valley Adult Center (2010 Sterling Place).
Bjornstad's slideshow presentation will be accompanied by maps and photos, showing current day features and a history of the floods. Bjornstad will be signing his book "On the Trail of the Ice Age Floods: A Geological Field Guide to the Mid-Columbia Basin" during the open house and after the lecture.
The book signing starts at 6 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7:30.
The guide explores the origins, timing and frequency of the Ice Age floods and describes each of 19 geologic features they left behind. It is also an exciting field guide to features, trails and tours in the Mid-Columbia Basin where we may witness today the awesome power of the ancient floods.

Bjornstad is a licensed geologist and hydrogeologist in Washington and Oregon and senior research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He has studied the Ice Age floods and explored every corner of the Northwest over the last 25 years. An active member of the Ice Age Floods Institute, he regularly publishes and leads lectures and field trips on the Ice Age floods.
