Senior David Giron and sophomore Jared McDonald were the only Columbia High baseball players to crack the 2006 All-Trico Division first-team lineup.
Giron made the first team as a designated hitter (he led CHS with 24 hits and a .429 batting average), McDonald as a starting pitcher (the right-hander had a team-best 5-2 record and 1.91 earned run average in 51-1/3 innings), and both for the first time.
The most selections belonged to Trico Division co-champion Hockinson, which placed seven players on the 16-man first team. The Hawks also swept the individual honors.
Junior Tyler Westensee earned the player of the year award and Hockinson's field boss, Rick Skinner, was named coach of the year for the second year in a row. (Skinner shared the 2005 award with Ridgefield's Art Osmundson.)
Second-team honors for CHS went to junior infielders Greg Tellez (.333 BA, 1 HR, 21 runs) and Kyle Reeves (.392 BA, .500 OBP, 15 RBIs), junior outfielder Austin Krentz (1 HR, 8 2Bs, 15 RBIs, 19 runs, 7/8 stolen bases) and junior catcher Nick Reeves (.327 BA, 16 runs, 4/4 stolen bases).
Moreover, CHS sophomore second baseman Taylor Champion (.409 BA, .544 OBP, 11 RBIs) and sophomore pitcher/designated hitter Danny Giron (3-4 W-L record, .327 BA, 14 RBIs) received honorable mention in the voting by Trico coaches.
