The White Salmon Community Library will be closed during the month of February for remodeling. The remodeling project will include new carpeting, repainting, new furniture, and slightly re-configuring the library’s interior spaces, such as the adult reading area, to provide a new area for teens and an enhanced children’s area.
The following are details regarding the upcoming library closure plan:
• The library will be open as usual through Saturday, Jan. 30.
• The entire building will be closed Monday, Feb. 1, when staff will be boxing up and moving the entire collection (an estimated 1,600 boxes of books), which will be stored in the south two-thirds of the library gallery.
• The library’s temporary service point (located in the north third of the library gallery and accessible two doors east down the sidewalk from the library’s main entrance) will be open starting Tuesday, Feb. 2, for five hours each day, Monday through Saturday. The open schedule alternates morning, afternoon and evening hours in an effort to accommodate as many patrons as possible. Specific hours include: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, 3 to 8 p.m.; Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
• Services at the temporary service point will be very limited. Patrons will be able to pick up holds and return books (either to the exterior book drops, that staff will be attending to regularly or to the temporary service point during open hours). Staff will have a very small collection of new and “Lucky Day” books for browsing and checking out as well as the current newspapers and a selection of current magazines. Space will be extremely limited, so this will be a ‘quick-stop’ only version of the library.
• Many of the library programs will continue throughout the month of February in alternate venues.
*Toddler Storytime, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:35 a.m., Grace Baptist Church.
*Friends of the Library meeting, Feb. 8, 3 p.m., Columbia Bank.
*Chapter Book Club, Feb. 10, 2 to 3 p.m., Whitson Elementary School.
*Adult Book Group, 3 p.m., Columbia Bank.
*Teen Book Club, Feb. 23, 5:30 p.m., Columbia High School Library.
*Teen Council, Feb. 23, 6:30 p.m., Columbia High School Library.
*Writers’ Group, Feb. 2 and 16, Umpqua Bank.
Canceled program during the month include: family storytime and open play, family movie, poetry group, Lego Club, Gamer’s Unite, and Teen Night.
• The exact reopen date is not yet determined, but the library will be reopened sometime in early March with a reopening celebration scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 with the exact time still to be scheduled.
