The first in a series of public meetings with City of White Salmon swimming pool consultants will be held next Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Fire Station.
What’s being billed as a community workshop to solicit input on the pool’s design will begin at 6 p.m. in City Council chambers, 119 NE. Church Ave.
The public is invited to take part in the workshop to help finalize plans for the new community pool.
The meeting’s objectives are:
•To present the current status and timeline for the pool project, targeted for use in 2019.
•To discuss design options and gather more feedback from the community in order to prepare pool design and associated costs by November.
•To present ways to be involved in fundraising and information sharing.
Six more pool-related meetings also have been scheduled (three in October, two in November, and one in December).
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, city officials will be presented two pool design options from which to choose a preferred design.
At a follow-up meeting on Oct. 5, city staff will discuss the options with the City Council and members of the Pool Committee to give lead pool consultants Yost Grube Hall Architecture a decision on Oct. 6 “as to which direction we will go with for the bond,” said Clerk/Treasurer Leana Johnson.
On Nov. 4, Yost Grube Hall will be sending the city information related to design and cost. These materials will be distributed to the City Council prior to its Nov. 16 business meeting.
On that date, the council will hold a public hearing on the design and cost, and a discussion of what members heard from the public during the hearing.
A second public hearing could be scheduled for Dec. 7, at which time the council is expected to approve an ordinance calling for a bond levy election on Feb. 14, 2017.
The Pool Committee and city staff kicked off the planning process on Sept. 14 by meeting with Yost Grube Hall staff; Austin Bell, of Bell Design Company, who will be doing the survey of the proposed site across from Whitson Elementary School; and sub-contracted pool design consultants Counsilman Hunsaker.
