On White Salmon River Pacific Lamprey returning upstream of Condit site

Larval lamprey were found and collected upstream, in the White Salmon River, of the former Condit Dam site. The 10 larval lamprey collected were genetically identified as Pacific Lamprey. The larvae are a potentially naturally-recolonizing population of Pacific Lamprey and an aquatic community’s response to the dam’s removal. (USFWS photo)

The Pacific Lamprey may be on the rebound upstream of the former Condit Dam site on the White Salmon River.

The return of the lamprey is seen as an important step in habitat restoration since the removal of Condit Dam, lamprey conservation and the partnership between the United States Fish Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Yakama Nation.
