State Route 14 through Bingen will be closed to on-street parking starting at 8 p.m. next Monday, Aug. 31, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, due to highway paving.
Vehicles parked along SR 14 between Willow Street and Cherry Street after 6 p.m. on Aug. 31 will be ticketed and towed, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced Tuesday morning.
According to project information provided in-person by WSDOT’s Columbia Gorge Office spokesman, Bart Treece, both directions of SR 14 will alternate traffic through a single lane during the parking closure. (See map at right.)
During the closure hours, WSDOT contract crews will resurface SR 14 between Willow and Cherry streets.
Treece indicated Tuesday afternoon that work on additional evenings to remove pavement markings and re-stripe the highway should not create a major impact to parking or traffic.
Treece said, “There is no ‘good time’ to do this work, but this resurfacing project will help ensure the road is in good condition when drivers need it the most.”
The work is weather-dependent.
Next week, drivers should expect around-the-clock, intermittent single-lane closures with flaggers and pilot car in both directions of SR 14 between Cook-Under-wood Road and Courtney Road for stripe removal and paving repair work.
Motorists should watch for flaggers and pilot car, and expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
