The Dalles baseball team sure found a way to end the regular season in style.
Nolan McCall drove in Gordy Harris with a walk-off fielder’s choice in the bottom of the eighth inning and the No. 13 Eagle Indians battled back from as much as an 8-0 deficit to clip the No. 8 Senators 12-11 in a non-league thriller Monday at Quinton Street Ballpark.
After going down by eight runs through two and a half frames, the Tribe chipped away at the Madison lead.
TD scored three runs in the third and tacked on a single in the fourth to creep to within an 8-4 deficit.
However, the Senators padded that lead to 11-4 after dropping three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth frame.
The Dalles then scored two in the fifth, four in the sixth and tied the score at 11-apiece with a single tally in the bottom of the seventh frame to set things up for McCall’s heroics in the eighth.
With the bases loaded in the eighth, McCall bounded a ball to the Madison shortstop, who fired to gun down Harris on a force play, but the Tribe base runner beat the throw and was called safe to end the game.
McCall had a breakout game just before the playoffs with a 5 for 6 output.
The all-state third baseman scored two runs, drove in two and swiped a base.
Eli Holeman and Austin Wilson each posted a 3 for 5 effort from the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Steven Bartells tallied three hits, a walk and three RBIs, Clay Copper went 2 for 4 and Payton Eaton had a hit, a walk, scored twice and drove in two more runs to pace the Tribe’s 20-hit barrage.
Wilson got the win on the mound, as he tossed three innings of three-hit ball with three strikeouts and three walks for his third win of the year.
