The stakes were raised Saturday in The Dalles, as the No. 20 Eagle Indians hit the diamond against No. 2-ranked Pendleton in a pivotal Columbia River Conference softball action Saturday in The Dalles.
The Buckaroos pulled off a two-game sweep by scores of 9-2 and 7-2.
In the second game, The Dalles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Morgan Triperinas crossed the plate on a one-out wild pitch.
Staked to that lead, the Tribe put freshman reliever Sierra Watson in the circle to try and hammer down an upset win.
The Bucks got a leadoff double and one out later, Alexis Morrison slammed a full count pitch over the left field fence for a homer to give the Bucks a 3-2 lead.
Pendleton racked up four runs in the top of the seventh on three hits, an error, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
Triperinas lasted five frames and scattered three runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks in the no-decision.
Morgan Goslin paced the five-hit attack with a 2 for 4 effort.
Ruthie Ford tacked on a double and an RBI in four at-bats, Hannah Harris had a hit and a run, and Kailin Hoylman swiped two bases.
The Eagle Indians left eight on base, including five in scoring position. They also had two runners thrown out at third base to cut down rallies in the third and sixth innings.
The Dalles (7-11 overall, 1-4 league) travels to No. 2 Pendleton (13-5, 4-1) for softball action at 4 p.m. today.
