The Dalles boys’ soccer team finished tied for third place with Pendleton after suffering a 3-0 loss Tuesday night to No. 2-ranked Hood River Valley on Henderson Field in Hood River.
The Hawks were officially eliminated from playoff contention after a coin flip Wednesday morning, determined that the Buckaroos would represent the third seed at state.
After the loss to Hood River Valley, TD head coach Greg Burkart said his group played hard, but were beaten by a better team.
“Although it is disappointing to exit early and finish dead last in the conference, there is also a teachable moment in play,” Burkart said. “That would be that if you want to improve and move forward with a season or in life, you have to be willing to make the kind of effort on a daily basis to achieve that goal. Nothing is given or deserved if not earned. Sometimes a painful disappointment is what is required to drive that point home. We will see if it does the trick moving forward.”
TD finished 2-12 overall and went 1-5 in league play.
The lone Columbia River Conference victory came at home on Oct. 6, a 2-0 win over Pendleton.
The only other win occurred on opening day, as the Hawks blanked Redmond by a 5-0 tally on Sept. 3.
The Hawks scored 10 goals, seven of those in the two wins, and allowed 45.
They will lose four seniors, but return four juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen.
