Katie Conklin and Brooke McCall hit a combined 12 field goals, five from long distance, for 29 points and the No. 10-ranked scoring The Dalles Riverhawks a 55-44 victory over Hood River Valley Friday in a Columbia River Conference tussle at Kurtz Gym in The Dalles.
Coming off a dramatic 43-36 win Tuesday over No. 8 Pendleton, the big goal was to not have a letdown, so a quick start was pivotal.
In the opening period, Lori Cimmiyotti busted loose for three field goals, Conklin swished a 3-pointer and Olivia Starks hit on 2 free throws to put the Hawks out in front by a 17-5 score.
Kailin Hoylman tallied two scores in the second quarter, but the offense struggled for only six points, as Hood River used a pair of 3-pointers from Jestena Mattson for a 9-6 output to creep to a 23-14 deficit at the break.
Conklin, a senior, had her soft stroke going in the third quarter with three baskets and a three-pointer and McCall added another hoop to fuel a 12-10 total to extend on the Riverhawk lead 35-24 with one quarter left to play.
Both teams were on fire in the final period with each hitting on 20 points. Marlie Bloomster and Kelsey Wells hit on 12 of the points and Mattson and Kassidy Davidson both hit three-pointers.
While the Eagles (5-15 overall, 0-5 league) stood shot-for-shot with The Dalles in the fourth quarter, McCall had the hot hand with 12 points, Morgan Goslin hit a basket, Starks sank two free throws and Conklin and Iliana Telles dropped 3-pointers to lead TD with its 20 points.
For the game, the Riverhawks hit on 22 field goals, six from 3-point territory and went 5 of 7 from the line.
Conklin had 15 points, McCall had 14 points and Cimmiyotti added six points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Hoylman had eight assists, five rebounds, four rebounds and two steals, and Telles added six rebounds, four steals and four assists.
TD (10-9, 2-3) outrebounded Hood River 31-30, with 11 of those rebounds coming on the offensive glass.
Wells had 12 rebounds, Mattson and Monique Lara had four rebounds and Davidson had three assists.
The Dalles heads out to take on No. 2-ranked Hermiston (18-3, 6-0) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs dispatched of Pendleton (13-8, 3-3) by a 66-57 score Friday at Hermiston High School.
