Ezekiel Stelzer and Amanda Hoey were the highlights of last weekend’s Wasco County Fair Run/Walk, leading their respective divisions for first place as nearly 30 runners showed up to perform on the tough Tygh valley course.
Stelzer won the men’s 5k race with a time of 18 minutes and 17 seconds, nearly two minutes better than his next two opponents.
After the second-place winner, John Miller had a third-place time of 19:49, and then Colton Duncan (24:45), Mark Shelquist (30:36) and Lauren Hernandez (31:56) rounded out the top-6 placers.
“Ezekiel Stelzer came out, once again, pumping on all cylinders with another great 5K run,” said race director Ty Wyman. “He had a time of 18:17 around one second slower than the week before, but it was still a very impressive time for a young man like himself.”
Dezi Remington cruised past the field of 3k runners with an impressive mark of 20:12, besting the next finisher by three minutes.
On the 10k side, Michael Gorbacher won the men’s race with a time of 40:45, and Hoey lapped the women’s field and posted a 51:03.
Sid Spaulding placed third overall, as he had a final mark of 55:25.
“Amanda came out doing the same for the women in the 10k,” Wyman said. “The same as the week before, she was out running an hour before we started.”
After organizing a pair of successful fundraiser running events, Wyman wants to get more events going during the winter season, to get more community involvement in additional races.
