Colin Noonan went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and four RBIs to lead The Dalles baseball team to a 10-8 win in a Columbia River Conference road clash against Hermiston Tuesday.
After Hermiston scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to inch to within an 8-7 deficit, the Riverhawks were able to add some distance on the scoreboard with two runs in the seventh using a hit batter, a walk and consecutive errors.
Up by three runs, TD reliever Boston Bate allowed one run in the home half of the seventh and had runners on first base and second base with two outs against No. 7 hitter Danny Gossler.
On the first pitch from Bate, Gossler rolled a grounder to Eaton at third base. The senior scooped up the ball and tagged third for the final out to give TD its fifth win in the last six games.
“Team chemistry plays in. We have all been playing together for a long time,” said TD junior Colton Walker. “We helped each other on both sides of the ball, defensively and offensively. If we can play a complete game, we have shown that we can be a tough team to beat.”
Eaton lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts for the win.
Bate allowed four runs in his 1 2/3 innings and posted the save.
Gordy Harris had a hit and three RBIs, Hoffman went 1 for 2 with a walk and three runs scored and Ross Kohl notched two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.
The Riverhawks totaled eight hits and were issued seven walks, but stranded 11 runners .
TD (8-8 overall, 2-1 league) travels to Pendleton (5-11, 1-2) for a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
