The Dalles football team is coming into a matchup against Summit, just a week after suffering a 61-0 loss at the hands of Redmond, so the process is taking back the fundamentals in an attempt to hit the restart button for the rest of the year.
In that setback, the Riverhawks struggled to gain three yards of offense, three first downs and a 1 for 12 on third down conversions.
In all facets of the game, especially the passing game, is where the Riverhawks need to take a foothold.
Sophomore quarterback Dominique Seufalemua completed just 7 of 26 passes for 21 yards, and his two top receivers were Denzel Arellano and Jacob Wetmore, who had a catch apiece for 17 yards.
Defensively, The Dalles defense allowed 404 yards and held the Panthers to 5 of 6 on third down conversions.
Riley Bardes had 6.5 tackles, Orion Smith had five tackles and Henry Lee posted three tackles.
That group will face a Summit Storm team that is 2-1 on the season so far and are coming off a 35-14 loss last week to Ashland.
The Storm used the ground game to attack Ashland, as running back Jason Garcia totaled 21 rushes for 109 yards, and 5-foot-6 inch, scatback, Sean Kent, carried the ball seven times for 103 yards and two scores.
When the Storm is clicking offensively with quarterback Bransen Reynolds calling the shots, they average 46.5 points a clip with the first two wins coming against Pendleton and Franklin by an average of 30.4 points.

Dufur focused on task at hand
The consensus feeling is that the No. 8-ranked Dufur Rangers are back in rhythm since taking a big loss two weeks ago at the hands of Adrian.
Last week, the Rangers shellacked Arlington by a 52-28 margin, once leading 36-0 with two minutes and 20 seconds left in the opening quarter.
The running game got a boost from Nick Little, quarterbacks Kolbe Bales and Bailey Keever were dialed in and new weapon Curtis Crawford hit the end zone twice.
This offense will take on a Logger defense that has surrendered 116 points in losses to North Lake and Sherman.
Mitchell/Spray has some good weapons in the mix with quarterback Dylon Tankersley, running back Brett Domenighini and tight end Willy Helms primed to take flight.
Against Arlington last week in the opening half, the Rangers had four sacks, forced two turnovers, two punts and two loss of downs possessions.
The Honkers had 10 negative plays and were held to -14 yards of offense.
Aside from the hard-hitting efforts put forth by the defense, Ranger coach Jack Henderson is still looking for a finished product.
“I think there is a lot of room for improvement at this point in time,” Henderson said. “My goal is to get them playing more consistently at every position.”
Action starts at 1 p.m. Friday in Mitchell.
No. 7 Sherman has stiff road test
The first two games of the year for the No. 7 Sherman Huskies have been long decided in the opening half, as the group is rolling to 60 points a game in going undefeated early on.
Sherman will have its work cut out for them in a critical test against Brant Barnes, Haylen Janesofsky, Troy Trembly and the Perrydale Pirates.
Perrydale, now a 2A school playing an independent schedule this year, appears to be riding a tremendous hot streak with three consecutive victories by a combined 176-46 margin.
Even more impressive is the fact that the Pirates dominated perennial powerhouse Triad a week ago by a 64-20 score at home.
“Perrydale has had a strong program for a number of years and we are looking forward to see how we match up this year,” said Sherman coach Ron Townsend.
In last week’s 74-6 win over Mitchell/Spray, the Huskies totaled 555 yards on 21 rushes with Blake and Brett Evans, Maverick Winslow and Austin Kaseberg doing damage
With a solid line and a host of weapons, time will tell if Sherman can flip the switch again against a Perrydale defense.
“We feel like we have improved each week and hope to continue that trend,” Townsend added. “This is our last non-league game and after this week we will get in to the meat of our league schedule.”
