Since a pair of non-league losses at the beginning of the month, the No. 7-ranked Dufur Rangers have rattled off four consecutive victories by an average margin of 20.7 points to end the regular season.
It is the right way to end a top campaign, as the Rangers prepare for Friday’s Big Sky district tournament game.
“We are coming in ready,” said senior center Kelly Heemsah. “We have been working hard through this season and have improved a lot. We have had some downfalls through the season with our losses, but improved since then. If we do work well as a team, I think we can only get better from here.”
Saturday, Dufur did not leave anything to chance against the Hawks, staking control in the opening stanza with outputs of 12-2 and 14-8 to lead 26-10.
Ahead by those 16 points to start the third quarter, Alexa Macias had things cooking with 12 of her team-high 15 points as part of a 20-7 rally.
Hannah Harris added four points in the third, and the trio of Teneille McDonald, Tianna Ellis and Taylor Darden dropped two points apiece to give the Rangers a 46-17 lead entering the final quarter.
“Our offensive flow and execution improved as the game went on,” said Dufur coach Hollie Darden. “We had different people in the lineup contribute on both sides of the court. We added a few new wrinkles in our offense in terms of spacing the floor, making some back cuts and things like that. We had some good looks doing that. Overall, I was very happy with the way played.”
McDonald finished with eight points, Sammi Ghramm tacked on seven and both Ellis and Harris ended up with six points each, as the Rangers hit 24 field goals and 4 of 7 from the line.
Dufur (18-6 overall, 8-0 league) plays Friday.
