The Dalles Main Street Summerfest tote bag will debut at the July 4 celebration and has discount coupons inside and a game board that offers an opportunity to win prizes.
The bag designed by graphic artist Samantha Savage is available in three accent colors, pink, blue and green.
The bag will be sold at the Main Street booth next to the Human Foosball table on First and Court streets on Saturday.
The totes will also be available at the Main Street office inside The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce, 404 West Second Street. A minimum donation of $5 will be required to cover Main Street’s cost for creation of the bag.
“Shoppers will want to pick up a tote right away to get the most out of it,” said Bill Nielsen, Summerfest task squad leader. “The totes are full of shopping perks from downtown businesses. They also offer the key to releasing your own inner Sherlock – the Main Street Murder Mystery game brochure.”
Between July 4 and 18, which is the starting date of Summerfest, wanna-be detectives, shamuses and gumshoes are invited to search for clues at participating downtown businesses for a chance to win some big prizes.
Those who solve the mystery will be put in a drawing during Summerfest to win a ticket and souvenir package to the Pendleton Roundup, Fort Dalles Pro-Rodeo tickets, or an air conditioner from Pioneer Electric to help beat the July heat.
Summerfest is coordinating its event with the 50th Anniversary of the Fort Dalles Pro-Rodeo and parade, offering plenty of daytime fun leading up to the “Rough and Wild” event Saturday evening.
Features activities include a Fun Zones, Chalk the Block, Human Foosball, Old West Shoot Out, vendors of food and beverages, and an entertainment block.
The Dalles Civic Auditorium is hosting a flea market the same day.
