Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue has opened the outdoor burning season with specific restrictions that follow guidelines of the Oregon Department of Forestry.
Residents within MCFR boundaries will be allowed to burn between the hours of dawn and 11 am. This time restriction is temporary and will be extended when authorities determine there has been enough rainfall to eliminate wildfire danger.
Outdoor pile burning and the use of burn barrels are allowed during the morning hours outside of the city limits. Residents who live within the city limits are prohibited from using a burn barrel and are allowed to burn only until Dec. 1.
MCFR’s territory extends halfway to Mosier on the west, to Eightmile Road to the south and to Highway 197 to the east, although some areas around St. Petersburg School is also included.
People wanting to burn natural materials are required to purchase a permit for $5 from MCFR’s station, 1400 W. Eighth Street, or online at www.mcfr.org.
Individuals who fail to follow all burning requirements, or possess a valid permit, are liable for all fire-related costs. Failure to follow the burning ordinance within the city limits is also grounds for citation under the city burn ordinance.
